Apex Alarms gave me the impression that our previous carrier, ADT, was bought out by Apex. I was told this by a representative who showed up at my door, stating that I needed to renew my contract since ADT was bought out.
This representative turned out to be a salesmen selling a bullshit scam. He caught me when I literally came home to pack for my trip to San Jose a few months back.
The alarm has been malfunctioning and one false alarm that occurred had the cops show up at my house almost an hour and a half after the alarm went off.
When I called to cancel my membership, I was told that an early cancellation of my 5-year contract with them requires me pay off the remaining amount of $2,200.
I was not told to contact ADT to cancel my membership with them before signing up with Apex, nor did I think it was necessary to do so since I was given the impression that ADT no longer existed. Nonetheless, when I was mailed a bill from ADT stating I had past due payments from the last few months, this proved that Apex was a scam.
I checked into a wide variety of complaints from Apex Alarms, and I found this thread on a message board:
I work for another alarm company, and I can tell you that APX sends people door to door to steal customers from us. They see a sign in the yard and come up and tell them that we've gone out of business/were bought out by APX and that they need to sign a new contract. They tell them to call in and cancel with us, which is when we tell them its a scam. Their website lists nothing but a 1800 number, and they have no listings of local branches, because they don't have them! I work at Protection One, and we're in the phone book and have a local branch office in all the areas that we service. Pick one of the big companies, and not one that has had cease and desist letters numerous times from Brinks and Protection One.
And this fellow's story went as far as to the attorney general.

As of 2:06 AM on January 26th, my mom passed away after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. She was fifty-seven.
I was with her the whole time, holding her hand until she was gone.
